Nitroxoline can be used to prevent urinary tract infections after surgery, by stabilizing the microflora and antibacterial agents within the body. 

The average treatment time is 2-3 weeks, depending on the severity of the infection. If chronic infection pursues, treatment with Nitroxoline can be repeated after a two week break.
